Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) Active Bystander Certification Training.
For any incident, like the Las Vegas massacre to the Boston Marathon bombings, citizens play a role in saving lives in the minutes following an attack. It is imperative that we provide the knowledge and skills necessary to help our community save lives until our professional responders can arrive.
The TECC Active Bystander Certification Course, or Active Bystander for short, is the premiere training program to prepare civilians for how to respond during an intentional violence event and to address life threatening emergencies. |
|
Similar to the FEMA personal preparedness course "You Are The Help Until Help Arrives," this dynamic and hands-on class will cover basic strategies and skills to recognize violent activities, respond safety, provide immediate rescue and initiate stabilizing medical care to the injured, and report them effectively to 911. The skills you will learn are transferable to countless situations involving traumatic injury, which include car accidents, household injuries or an active shooter.
Come and learn how to be an active bystander from our nationally recognized TECC experts and be prepared to act and save lives. Upon completion of this course, participants will receive a TECC Active Bystander certificate.
*Students must be at least 18-years-old (16 and 17 year-olds may attend with a guardian).

Tactical emergency casualty care (TECC) Active Bystander train-the-trainer.
This 1 ½ day course will train students to develop the knowledge base and depth of understanding to then take the model of Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) Active Bystander Certification Training and provide certification level training to the members of their community to build a more resilient chain of survival. This course is open to any current certified TECC Active Bystander who is interested in improving victim survivability during active violence incidents by training and enabling fellow citizens to act.
The training is held in two parts. The first 8 hours teaches participants an expanded background into active violence, wounding patterns, and the medical evidence behind the TECC guidelines. Additionally, there is expanded knowledge and hands-on practice with TECC equipment and skills, including learning how to teach the individual skills involved in the ‘Rescue and Treat’ phase of Active Bystander certification such as tourniquet applications, wound packing, management of torso injury, basic airway management, patient positioning, and patient movement. The second 4 hour session is a required demonstration of the student’s mastery as an instructor of the TECC Active Bystander material and skills, including a written exam on the material and as demonstrated teach-back of at least two rescue skills. Successful completion of this course leads to TECC Active Bystander training certification, and the student will be given generic TECC Active Bystander course materials to use for teaching courses going forward.
